President Andrés Manuel López Obrador asserted yesterday that the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) he washed his hands when concluding that the minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) Yasmín Esquivel Mossa plagiarized her bachelor’s thesis, but avoided deciding whether or not to withdraw her professional title and endorsed that responsibility to the Ministry of Public Education (SEP). .

Anyway, we are going to solve it here; Just let me see what the UNAM determinedexposed the president yesterday morning.

“According to what they tell me, what they are saying is: ‘there was plagiarism and it is not up to us to sanction, but to the SEP.’ Like Pontius Pilate, the rector (Enrique Graue) washed his hands; but of course he’s involved, right? Speaking in silver, because enough of simulation and hypocrisy. Soon (there will be a decision from the SEP), I don’t know if tomorrow or Monday. I believe that on Monday, so that we have time to legally see how the situation is, but we will not evade acting if we have responsibility ”, he highlighted.

After the controversy that broke out in December due to accusations of plagiarism against the minister, right in the middle of the process of replacing the presidency of the Court, last Wednesday the UNAM reached conclusions.

The Academic and Scientific Integrity Committee of the Faculty of Higher Studies Aragon – where Esquivel studied law – ruled that the minister, who aspired to preside over the Court, plagiarized the thesis with which she graduated. In turn, Graue pointed out in a statement that the highest house of studies cannot withdraw a degree, even if these irregularities are verified, and that it is up to the SEP to determine the validity of the degree.

López Obrador recalled that even before the definition to choose the new president of the SCJN, in a morning he stated that it was up to the UNAM to resolve, “but ultimately: your court should make a recommendation on the validity of the title (…) now what he wants is for us (SEP) to decide. There is no problem, we are going to analyze it (…) soon we will solve it”.

He stressed that corruption should not be allowed, which is stealing, nor plagiarism, which is dishonesty. Dishonesty is stealing and being inconsistent; then, it will be seen.

Since when do they care so much about ethics?

It considered that, regardless of whether the minister committed plagiarism, the matter It is closely linked to politicking, because when did those who have dedicated themselves to stealing care about ethics so much?

The president assured that he had no doubt that conservatism is characterized by hypocrisy, “because they are very corrupt; now they fly the flag of ethics, as we have seen them in other issues (…) Yes, they are strong, because for the rector of the UNAM to sign a statement, it is a matter of good political level”.
