The president of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otárola, indicated this Thursday that the president Dina Boluarte will not resign from office within the framework of the protests taking place in the interior of the country, the same one that has triggered the death of more than 40 people in a month and a half of his government. In a press conference, the prime minister explained that leaving the presidency would mean “open a very dangerous floodgate for anarchy and misrule”.
“I want to say it very clearly: the president is not going to resign. That fact is not going to happen and not because she doesn’t want to, but because the Constitution requires that this succession that has taken place be consolidated. Leaving the presidency of the Republic would be opening a very dangerous floodgate for anarchy and misgovernment. And that is not going to happen”, said the head of the ministerial cabinet.
In this current, Alberto Otárola explained that the head of state Dina Boluarte “is firm in leading the country” and also stressed that “she is not governing on automatic pilot.”
“I want to address the 33 million Peruvians who trust in democracy, trust in the rule of law, trust in human rights, trust in their institutions. Have confidence in your police and armed forces (….) The President of the Republic is firm in leading the country, she is not governing on automatic pilot as you have seen. We are making decisions in favor of Peruvians,” said the head of the PCM.
Along these lines, Otárola reiterated that the project to advance the elections is on the agenda of the Congress of the Republic.
“The advancement of elections law is on the agenda of Congress. Much of the solution to the problem lies in Congress deciding once and for all that law and rectifying it. The Government’s project was the advancement of elections, ”he sentenced.
