Cerúndolo, Villanueva and Torres advanced to the quarterfinals of the Challenger de Tigre

The Argentines Juan Manuel Cerúndolo, Gonzalo Villanueva and Juan Bustista Torres They advanced this Thursday to the quarterfinals of the Tiger Tennis Challengerin the province of Buenos Aires, by beating the Italian Edoardo Lavagno, the Spanish Carlos Sánchez Jover and the Buenos Aires native Tomás Farjat, respectively, while his compatriot Camilo Ugo Carabelli, first classified, was eliminated.

Juan Manuel Cerúndolo from Buenos Aires, ranked 143rd and second seeded in the tournament, beat Italian Edoardo Lavagno (366) 7-5, 4-6 and 6-2, in 2 hours and 34 minutes of play.

Cerúndolo, who last Sunday won the first Tigre Challenger of the year, will meet tomorrow in the quarterfinals, against Juan Bautista Torres (255), who beat Tomás Farjat (622) 6-4 and 6-1, after 1 hour and 20 minutes of the game.

For his part, Gonzalo Villanueva (299) from Entre Ríos defeated Spanish Carlos Sánchez Jover (403) 6-4, 6-2, after 1 hour and 19 minutes of confrontation.

Villanueva will play in the quarterfinals against the Dutchman Jesper De Jong (325), who today surprised by eliminating Camilo Ugo Carabelli (127), the first seed in the tournament, after beating him 6-4, 6-1 after 1 hour and 11 minutes of contention.

Last Wednesday, two other Argentines went to the quarterfinals of the Tigrense tournament: Andrea Collarini (244) and Mariano Navone (248), who will face tomorrow for that instance against the French Terence Atmane (297) and the Italian Alessandro Giannessi (247), respectively.

The Tigre Challenger, the second to be held at the same venue in two consecutive weeks, takes place on clay courts at the Hacoaj Yacht Club, in that Buenos Aires city, and distributes a total of $40,000 in awards.
