As part of the so-called “Freedom Convoy” to protest against the vaccines that are required to cross the border with the United States, hundreds of truckers drove their huge vehicles this Saturday (01.29.2022) in Ottawa, capital of Canada.
Waving the Canadian flag, waving “Freedom” signs and chanting slogans against Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the truckers joined thousands of other protesters against anti-Covid measures and discontent with the government.
As a result, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was moved with his family from his official residence in Ottawa to an undisclosed location for fear of unrest stemming from the protests.
The origin of the protests
The demonstrations began last week in western Canada where dozens of truckers organized a first convoy from Vancouver to Ottawa.
In both Canada and the United States, vaccination was imposed in mid-January as a requirement for truckers crossing the border between the two countries, which is about 9,000 kilometers long, the longest in the world.
Police said they were expecting eight convoys made up of several hundred vehicles and some 10,000 protesters.
