Deputies of the Frente de Todos (FdT) assured this Wednesday that they will give in the impeachment committee of the lower house “a deep debate, with arguments, away from all Chicana and petty interest”, while they summoned the legislators of all the blocks to “an intense discussion facing society”in the process to the members of the Supreme Court that will be opened in Congress.
The FdT legislators that make up the Impeachment Committee met this morning through the Zoom platform and advanced in the analysis of the next steps to take “based on the request that was delivered to us last week by the President of the Nation and governors of provinces” to advance in the impeachment of the members of the Supreme Court.
Within this framework, the legislators are advancing in the elaboration of the text of the project that they will present “between today and tomorrow” (for Wednesday and Thursday) in the lower house to open the impeachment process against the members of the Supreme Court, in base to the document promoted by President Alberto Fernández and the governorsonce the Executive Branch formalizes the call for extraordinary sessions and includes the debate on that initiative.
“We will work from the Commission analyzing the requests for Impeachment of the members of the Supreme Court of Justice. We will do so in full compliance with the National Constitution, the regulations of the Chamber of Deputies of the Nation and the regulations of the Impeachment Commission “, they emphasized in a press release.
Regarding the process that will be opened in the lower house, the deputies assured that they will promote “a deep debate, with arguments, away from all Chicana and petty interest” and specified: “We will study in depth decisions made by the Supreme Court and its implications for the division of powers, federalism and the functioning of institutions”.
The FdT deputies also called on all the blocks that make up the Political Judgment Commission “to give an intense discussion, based on our relative truths, in the face of Argentine society.”
The process, according to parliamentary sources, could begin in the week of January 23 and would require between three and four months of debate.
The sources indicated that the process will be focused on the investigation into the actions of the highest court in relation to the Council of the Magistracy and the claim of the City of Buenos Aires for the co-participation funds.
The sources confirmed to Télam that the text will be presented “between today and tomorrow” and will be based on the document that the president presented to the president last week. head of the bench of deputies of the FdT, Germán Martínez and the head of the Impeachment Committee, Carolina Gaillard.
On Tuesday, the JxC national table warned that it will participate in the debate, but will not give a quorum to move forward with the process of removal of the Court in Congress, while it will not support any project that the Executive Power sends to Parliament “as long as it continues this outrage”, against the highest court.
In that sense, the national deputy for the FdT, Leopoldo Moreauwhich is part of the Impeachment Commission, described as “very serious” the position of Together for Change (JxC) of refusing to deal with bills that the Executive sends to Congress until the request for impeachment is withdrawn from the Court Supreme Court because it is “announcing that they are going to paralyze” the Legislative Branch.
“The pressure of the dominant groups is no longer only on each member but is also of an institutional nature. Now JxC says that it will not deal with any law if we do not remove the impeachment. That is very serious. They are announcing that they are going to paralyze Congress,” Moreau said in statements to AM 750 radio.
The national deputy also expressed himself in this line Rodolfo Tailhade (FdT), who considered that “the Chamber has been blocked since before the President announced the impeachment of the Court. Since the beginning of December we have been without activity.”
According to Tailhade, “The trial of the Court gives them an excuse to continue paralyzing the Chamberwhich is going to happen, because even if the President had not made that announcement, I think the paralysis of the House would have followed.”
This morning, the spokesperson for the Presidency, Gabriela Cerruti, confirmed to Télam that the national government will convene extraordinary sessions of Congress for the second half of January, as had been announced, to deal with the impeachment request to the Supreme Court and other projects.
In this way, the official denied changes in the deadlines that the Government set for the extraordinary call, and referred to the information that she provided last Thursday, when she told Casa Rosada that President Alberto Fernández wanted “times to be as short as possible” in relation to the processing of the request for impeachment of the members of the Supreme Court of Justice.
Once the text was presented by the deputies, The project will be valid for three years. and it does not fall with the renewal of the body, that is to say that if the ruling party obtains an opinion by simple majority but cannot take it to the venue this year because it does not achieve the regulatory two-thirds, it could insist later if it gathers the necessary wills.
