The President of the Republic Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received this Wednesday (11) at the Planalto Palace a group of parliamentarians, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP), and the first vice-president of the Senate, Veneziano Vital do Rego (MDB), who delivered the symbolic intervention decree in the area of public security in the Federal District.
The decree edited on Sunday by Lula, after the coup acts committed by Bolsonarists dissatisfied with the result of the 2022 elections, was endorsed by both Houses of the Legislative. THE Chamber voted on the text on Monday and the senate, yesterday.
At the meeting, Lula thanked the parliamentarians for the quick approval of the intervention decree and the press coverage. Lula said that the terrorist acts were the action of a group of “nuts” who do not want to accept the electronic ballot box.
I thank the senators and deputies for approving the decision that reinforced order and the guarantee of democracy.

“I think that what happened here, I wouldn’t like to think of a coup, I would even like to think of something smaller, maybe a group of crazy people who still don’t understand that the election is over. Who still does not want to accept that the electronic ballot box is possibly the most perfect electoral model that we have in every country in the world”, said the president.
Lula also spoke about acts of vandalism to the country’s electrical system. “That was an act of vandalism too, an act of bandits because the steel cables were screwed. It means that someone purposely cut the cables of the two large towers. It had already happened at the end of the year in Rondônia, from Eletronorte, which had been demolished That is, obviously we are going to investigate, we are trying to find out”, he said.
“What you’re doing with this decree is saying that we have to punish. Those who don’t want to respect the law, we have to punish. Those who don’t want to respect the democratic order so hard to achieve by us from the 1988 Constitution”, said the president. “Any gesture that goes against Brazilian democracy will be punished within what the law allows to be punished. Everyone, everyone will have the right to defend themselves, everyone will have the right to prove their innocence, but everyone will be punished,” he said.
The president of the Chamber stated that the approval of the intervention demonstrates a unity of the Federation in defense of democracy and the decree was necessary to combat acts of vandalism and offenses against the Constitution.
“The act of delivery of the Legislative Decree Project complies with the democratic, legal and constitutional rite that will certainly take a course with dialogue and firmness in the defense of democracy”, said Lira.
For Vital do Rego, the decree shows the country’s unity in combating terrorist acts. “It demonstrates the solidarity of the 27 units that brought support and said they were outraged by the acts perpetrated by those who thought they would undermine our institutional pillars”, he said.
The leader of the government in Congress, Senator Randolfe Rodrigues, said that on Sunday there was an attack on democracy and the Brazilian people and the coup plotters will be punished with the force of law. According to Rodrigues, the act represents the unequivocal manifestation of the National Congress that terror will not have a place in the country.
“Fascism and terror have only one position in history: the position of combat, of confrontation”, said the senator. “Each of the terrorists, wherever they are, whether or not they wear a parliamentary pin, whether they wear a toga or not, whether or not they wear a uniform, wherever they are, whoever they are, I am sure that those democrats in the country led by President Lula will react to defend the attacked nation and to defend democracy”.
