Nicaragua reports 67 new cases of covid and maintains deaths at 245

Suspected cases of COVID-19 increased in June, Nicaraguan observatory reports

The Nicaraguan Ministry of Health reported this Tuesday 67 new cases of covid-19 and no deaths in the last week, which brought confirmed infections to 20,271 and kept deaths at 245 since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

In their weekly report, the Nicaraguan health authorities highlighted that “this week there were no deaths attributable to covid-19”, although there were 67 new confirmed cases in the last seven days.

The Ministry of Health has not reported new deaths due to the pandemic since July 2022, the month in which the Covid-19 Citizen Observatory, a network of independent doctors that monitors the pandemic, reported 6,066 deaths from pneumonia and other symptoms of the coronavirus, in addition to 32,650 suspected cases, figures that the Government rejects.

The Health portfolio indicated that 15,195 people have survived covid-19 in Nicaragua since March 2020, and that, since the pandemic was detected in the country, they have “attended and provided responsible and careful follow-up to 15,507 people.”

“People who have been under responsible and careful follow-up for covid-19 have frequently had associated conditions such as arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity, heart disease, immunodeficiency syndrome, chronic renal failure, a history of stroke, pulmonary tuberculosis. and chronic lung diseases”, according to the health report.

The Nicaraguan Executive has reported that 92% of the population over 2 years of age already have the complete vaccination schedule against covid-19, while 96% have at least one dose.

Nicaragua has not applied restrictive measures as part of the fight against the coronavirus since the pandemic began, which has earned it criticism from the World Health Organization (WHO).
