A Kansas man who traveled to Washington has been charged with threatening US President Joe Biden, according to court documents.
Scott Merryman phoned police in Independence, Kansas, Tuesday and said he was going to the nation’s capital to see the president.
In a Wednesday telephone interview with a US Secret Service agent, Merryman said God directed him to go to Washington to cut off “the serpent’s head in the heart of the nation,” according to the documents.
Merryman denied under cross-examination that Biden was the snake, though in a Facebook post he identified the president as the “Antichrist” and said he “will suffer a fatal head injury.” He added that “I will throw that punch in the name of Christ.”
Another Secret Service agent located Merryman in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel restaurant in Hagerstown, Maryland. The officer searched Merryman and found three rounds of ammunition and a telescopic sight, but did not find a firearm or other weapon, according to court documents.
On Thursday, Merryman called the White House switchboard and threatened Biden.
The complaint calling for his arrest on the federal charges was filed Friday.
