Moraes: whoever financed and encouraged coup acts will be punished

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), said today (10) that all those who financed or encouraged the coup acts, whether by action or omission, will be punished to the fullest extent of the law, in addition to the vandals who attacked the headquarters of the Three Powers on Sunday (8).Moraes: whoever financed and encouraged coup acts will be punished

“The institutions will punish all those responsible, all. Those who carried out the acts, those who financed, those who contributed, those who encouraged, by action or by omission, because democracy will prevail”, said Moraes, who spoke at the headquarters of the Federal Police (PF), in Brasília, during the inauguration of the new CEO of the corporation, Andrei Rodrigues.

Moraes is the rapporteur for two investigations at the Federal Supreme Court (STF), which investigate the planning and carrying out of anti-democratic acts by supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro. Within the scope of these processes, the minister removed, at dawn on Monday (9), the governor of the Federal District (DF), Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), and ordered the arrest in flagrante delicto of anyone who did not withdraw from coup-mongering camps opposite to units of the Armed Forces across the country.

Yesterday (9), the largest of these camps, in front of the Army headquarters in Brasília, was removed by the Army Police, with the help of the Military Police of the DF. The measure was carried out under the supervision of Ricardo Capelli, appointed federal intervenor in District Public Security by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Approximately 1,200 people who were there were taken in dozens of buses to PF facilities, where they are being heard and registered.

Moraes said that those who committed violent acts “are not civilized”, being applauded by the audience. He added that these people should not think “that being arrested is like being in summer camp”, as they will be punished to the fullest extent of the law. In the decision that determined the arrests in flagrante delicto, he pointed out at least seven crimes that may have been committed by the detainees, including those against the democratic rule of law and national sovereignty. “Don’t think that institutions will weaken,” he said.

“Institutions are not only made of marble, chairs and tables, they are made of people, of courage, of compliance with the law”, stated Moraes. “There will be no appeasement,” he guaranteed.

He praised delegate Andrei Rodrigues, the new general director of the PF, who said he had technical and academic competence, with the ability “to think, innovate, to work”.

“The great challenge for the police is the question of intelligence, information, the gathering of information so that we can plan, so that we can anticipate, prevent crime”, said Alexandre de Moraes.

Also on Monday (9), the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, informed that the companies that owned the seized buses that brought radical coup plotters to Brasília had already been identified. The Advocacia-Geral da União (AGU) prepares the request for blocking accounts of these legal entities.

Matter amended at 4:04 pm to correct delegate Andrei Rodrigues’ name.
