MIAMI, United States. — The United States Coast Guard deported another 187 Cuban rafters on Tuesday, for a total of 647 migrants returned to the Caribbean island in the last three days.

The nationals of the Caribbean country were repatriated by the crews of the coast guard Angela McShan and Robert Yered.

Lieutenant Travis Poulos, of the 7th District of the Coast Guard, warned Cubans about the dangers of crossing the Florida Straits in artisanal and unsafe vessels.

“Our crews are trying to prevent people from losing their lives during these dangerous sea voyages,” Poulos said.

In recent weeks, the US authorities have redoubled surveillance in the Florida Keys, which has triggered rescue and deportation operations for Cuban migrants.

This Tuesday the Border Patrol reported the arrest of 19 Cuban migrants who arrived at Key Colony Beach in a small boat.

According to a report released by Chief Patrol Agent Walter N. Slosar, the operation had the support of local partners and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Yesterday, the Angela McShan and Pablo Valents coast guard crews repatriated another 187 Cuban migrants who had disembarked in recent days at different points in the Florida Keys. On Sunday there had been 273 rafters.

The Coast Guard recalled that people based in the United States seeking information about a family member possibly intercepted by that agency should contact the office of their local congressman or representative of the Senate.
