Relatives and residents of the Peñarol neighborhood demonstrated to demand justice for the death of Ezequiel Díaz, the 18-year-old teenager who died after being run over by a bus of the Coetc company on the night of Saturday, January 7 in the Peñarol neighborhood.
Ezequiel’s mother, Caty Díaz, said that she “heartily” asks the Prosecutor’s Office to take the case and put the bus driver in pretrial detention pending trial. “My son crossed in green, he crossed well, he ran over him and continued on, he fled. Luckily they caught up with him but on Sunday he was free. It is not fair that I am free and my son is in the cemetery and I am here fighting for justice to be done“he told Telemundo.
“I sincerely ask the Prosecutor’s Office to come back from the license and put him on preventive. That’s not fair. He left a very good boy, very studious. Everyone loved him and he didn’t take responsibility. There can’t be people driving like this,” he added.
The incident occurred when the victim was crossing the intersection of Colonel Raíz and Aparicio Saravia (Peñarol).
Although it’s not allowedsince there is a sign that marks it, the Coetc line 405 bus turned left to enter Coronel Raíz, as reported by Telemundo and confirmed to The Observer Juan Arellano, from the National Union of Transport Workers and Workers (Unott).
