50% of the total contracts awarded in 2022 by the Dominican purchasing system were awarded to micro, small and medium-sized companies (Mipymes), according to the General Director of Public Procurement and Contracting (DGCP)Carlos Pimentel Florezán.
Through a series of tweets published on his official account, Pimentel also indicated that 38% of the providers awarded in all of 2022 were MSMEs throughout the Dominican business fabric.
“In 2022, a record was established in the amount awarded to MiPymes companies, assigning contracts equivalent to 41% of the budget allocated to public purchases to this type of Businesswhich is equivalent to RD$ 93.5 billion,” the official specified when opening the thread on his Twitter account.
Pimentel also cited that 86% of the 492 purchasing units that trade in the PT met the minimum quota by law of 20% for the allocation of their purchasing budget to MiPymes, the percentage increases to 95% when they are extracted town halls and new hospitals implemented in 2022.
“The 4,500 MiPymes providers awarded in 2022 represent 32% of the total MiPymes providers registered in the RPE. It is important to emphasize that 4,240 different MiPymes providers were awarded in 2022, a diversification rate of awards 94% for MiPymes”, explained the director of the DGCP.
Contracts and awards by sector
Regarding the productive sectors that received contracts, he explained that MSMEs received 54% of the industrial sector, 45% of health, 51% of agriculture, 57% of food and beverages, 59% of textiles, 45% of transportation and 54% of construction, to mention the main sectors.
Regarding the amounts awarded, MSMEs in 2022 received 38% of the amount awarded from the construction sector, 28% from health, 38% from industry, 53% from food and beverages, 34% from agriculture, 47% from textiles, 18% transport, multisectoral growth.
