Coronavirus subsides in the first week of 2023

The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) published this Monday its first weekly report regarding the monitoring of the development of the coronavirus disease in Uruguay. On this occasion, according to the data provided, during the first week of 2023 (January 1 to 7) the indicators of this pathology showed improvements compared to those of the previous weeks.

In these first seven days of the year, 5,165 new cases were registered against the 8,285 cases that were registered in the previous period (December 25 to 31, 2022), that is, 3,120 fewer cases.

Likewise, with 21,389 tests carried out in the last seven days, positivity (percentage of tests that were positive) fell to 26.4% compared to 31.5% the previous week.

Regarding the number of deaths, in the last week 12 people infected with coronavirus died. This represents an increase of three times more than the last week of December, where four people died.

Until the closing of the report, the number of active cases (people with the disease) was 5,165, while the week before this was 8,285, that is, there was a drop of 3,120 people. On the other hand, the occupancy of hospital beds ITC by parts of patients with covid rose from 1.7% to 6.4%.

Since the first case of coronavirus was registered in the country, there have been 1,025,810 positive cases and 7,586 deaths.
