MADRID, Spain.- The United States Coast Guard (USCG) repatriated 273 Cuban migrants this Sunday.
According to reported The USCG through a statement, the Cubans, returned by the crew of the Mohawk Coast Guard, had been intercepted near the Florida Keys in 12 groups, between December 31, 2022 and January 1, 2023.
“The Coast Guard continues to intercept and rescue migrants from heavily overloaded and unseaworthy vessels,” insisted Coast Guard District 7 John Beal.
Just as he recalled that “these illegal trips are always dangerous and often deadly.”

John Beal further noted that the Coast Guard works closely with partner agencies to save lives and prevent illegal entry into the United States.
“Those intercepted at sea will be repatriated,” he stressed.
From October 1, 2022 to date, Coast Guard crews have intercepted 4,795 Cubans.
On January 1, 2023, approximately 300 Cuban rafters illegally entered Dry Tortugas National Park, located about 70 miles west of Key West.

Faced with this influx, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis asset the National Guard on Friday to provide support to local forces.
According to a statement from the Government of Florida, DeSantis signed Executive Order 23-03 (Emergency Management – Illegal Migration), which activates the Florida National Guard and directs state law enforcement agencies to support the local governments to prevent further landings of migrants on the state’s coasts.
“As the negative impacts of Biden’s immigration policies continue unabated, the Administration’s failure lies with local law enforcement, which lacks the resources to deal with the crisis,” DeSantis said.
