The men’s field hockey team -winner of the gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games- qualified today for the 2023 World Cup in India by beating Canada 5-2 and qualified for the Pan American Cup final of Santiago de Chile next Sunday.
The goals of the Argentine team, led by Mariano Ronconi, were achieved by José Tolini (2), Federico Fernández, Tomás Domene and Maico Casella.
Argentina will play the final of the tournament next Sunday with the winner of the semifinal, which will be played later by the United States and Chile.
The tournament, which will be played until the 30th of this month, provides two places for the 2023 World Cup in India.
Argentina debuted in the tournament on Thursday, January 20, with a landslide victory over Brazil by 10-0, for Group A.
The goals were scored by Maico Casella (4m. 24m. 29m and 43m), on four occasions, José Tolini (9m.), Lucas Martínez (20m.), Nicolás Della Torre (26m.), Tomas Domene (28m.), Santiago Tarazona (35m.) and Agustín Bugallo Agustin (59m.).
Then, on Saturday the 22nd, Los Leones defeated Chile, 3-2, with goals from Lucas Martínez (2) and Maico Casella, and qualified for the semifinals.
Argentina won the Pan American Cup three times: London, Canada, 2004; Brampton, Canada, 2013 and Lancaster, United States, 2017, and won the bronze medal twice; Havana, Cuba, 2000 and Santiago, Chile, 2009.

In the last World Cup, held in the Indian city of Bhubaneswar, the Lions were eliminated in the quarterfinals after losing to Great Britain 3-2.
The Argentine team achieved its best position in world championships in The Hague, Netherlands, 2014, when he won the bronze medal.
