The Pontifical Catholic University of Peru presents the 22nd Festival “Coming Out of the Box”an event organized by the students of the Creation and Scenic Production specialty in conjunction with the Faculty of Performing Arts and the PUCP Cultural Center. The activities will take place from January 18 to February 5as part of a fully face-to-face programming that strengthens links with the public and makes visible the demanding work that emerging artists do to create an artistic piece.
Different audiences, including adolescents and young performing arts graduates, artists and professionals from cultural institutions will enjoy a varied agenda that includes an inaugural concert, dance and theater performances, conversations, and performance conferences with students from the Faculty of Performing Arts of the PUCP.
Ticket sales will be through the Joinnus platform at ccpucpencasa.com and/or at the ticket office of the PUCP Cultural Center.
This new edition will begin on Wednesday, January 18 at 7:00 pm (exact time) with a free inaugural concert by singer-songwriter Nia Vanie, percussionist César Gabriel, and keyboardist Daniel Gómez, who will be accompanied by choreographer and dancer Kimiko Guerra. At the end of the recital, there will be a moment of musical exchange by guitarist Sebastian Oyoque, bassist Leo Rodríguez, keyboardist Angela Marín and percussionist Cata De las Casas.
Likewise, during the three weeks of programming, seven works created by students from the last cycles of the Faculty’s careers will be premiered:
“Spinning Pieces” (January 19 and 20 at 8:00 pm), directed by Claudia Pachas. It tells the drama of a dancer who wishes to reunite with her ancestors and the Chinchana community. She internally explores her memories and brings to the present identities and voices that help her rediscover the beautiful treasure that she keeps.
“We Today” (January 21 at 8:00 pm and January 22 at 7:00 pm), directed by Ximena Portal. A performative installation where the viewer will find stimuli –audiovisual projections, music and personal files– that will become a great opportunity to reconnect with their family environment.
“Oh, Adriana!” (January 26 at 8:00 pm and January 28 at 4:00 pm), directed by Adriana Piedra. Proposal that combines contemporary dance and flamenco. Invitation to get to know yourself better through reflections and questions about belonging.
“Hug me” (January 28 at 8:00 pm and January 29 at 7:00 pm), directed by Martina Alvarado. Unipersonal that explores the disciplines of dance and theater to explain to the viewer the different types of hugs that exist, those that start from emotions, sensations and perceptions to those that are born in the imagination.
“I didn’t want to play the Apocalypse” (February 2 and 3 at 8:00 pm), directed by Andrea Félix. Staging that will immerse the public in an entertaining game to collectively find a real meaning to the challenges of life.
“In the still point of the world spinning” (February 3 and 4 at 4:00 pm), directed by Maritza Díaz. Four interpreters receive a mysterious invitation to appear in the same place. They decide to take travel suitcases to carry their most precious belongings, but upon arrival they will face the fear of not being enough.
“Zero Contact Policies” (February 4 at 8:00 pm and February 5 at 7:00 pm), directed by Nes Fiorani. She discovers the feeling and sensation of inhabiting a skin that is restricted from contact with other people. Situations will be imparted that will force this disconnected body to resist in order to stay in the system.
The complete schedule will include the free activities “Immersive Experience: Beware! Artists out of work (January 30 at 7:00 pm) by Fernanda Mía and Xiomara García, “Blog: Performance Conference 1″ (January 25 at 7:00 pm) and “Bitácora: Performative Conference 2″ (February 1 at 7:00 pm) with the special participation of Diana Cardozo, Gabriela Gutiérrez and Steve Medina, the curatorship and coordination of Lucero Medina Hú, Analucía Rodríguez and Fernanda Mía, and the presence of Lorena Peña and Cristina Velarde.
The organization and general programming is in charge of the students of Stage Creation and Production: Melany Prada, Gerson Borja, Juan Diego Valdivia, María Jesús Hinostroza, Vianca Campos, Camila Cartolin, María Paula Díaz and María Guerrero; with the permanent support and guidance of Cecilia Collantes, Gabriela Rojas and Ingrid García, who seek to convert the Festival “Out of the box” in an event that lasts over time due to its capacity for adaptability, constant evolution and the promotion of innovative proposals from artists and professionals in the emerging performing arts.
