At least 355 ex-combatants of the former guerrilla of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) have been killed since 2016, reported the UN Verification Mission in that country.

According to a report from the UN Verification Mission in Colombia, the casualties of former FARC members have been registered after the signing of the peace agreement with the Government, in November 2016.
As reported EFE, the report is based on information collected from September 27 to December 26, 2022. The UN noted that of the ex-combatants killed, 11 were women, 48 Afro-Colombians and 33 indigenous.

Of the total number of those murders that have occurred since November 2016, 12 occurred between September 27 and December 26, the information added.
For his part, the UN Secretary General, Anthony Guterres, recognized that during the first five months of the president’s government Gustavo Petro Steps have been taken that demonstrate the will of the president to consolidate peace in Colombia.
“I am pleased that the comprehensive implementation of the Final Agreement (with the FARC) is at the center of their efforts,” said Guterres, quoted in the UN Mission report released this Saturday, January 7.
Likewise, the Verification Mission in Colombia warned that violence against communities, social leaders and human rights defenders continues to be a cause of great concern, “especially in departments prioritized for the implementation of the Peace Agreement.”
In 2022, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights received complaints of 244 murders of human rights defenders. Of these, 101 were verified, 25 are in the verification process, and 118 were considered inconclusive.
The main victims are indigenous and Afro-Colombian leaders, as well as members of the Juntas de Acción Comunal, a grassroots social organization.
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) detailed that 78,154 people suffered forced displacement and some 108,665 were confined between January and November 2022.
“The departments of Cauca, Chocó, Nariño and Valle del Cauca (in the Colombian Pacific) concentrated most of the affected civilian population,” it is noted.
