Dominican reliever Gregory Soto trades Tigers for Phillies

El relevista dominicano Gregory Soto cambia a Tigres por Filis

Sports Writing, (EFE).- The Phillies have acquired Dominican closer Gregory Soto, who arrives in Philadelphia from Detroit, where he played for the Tigers.

Along with Soto, the National League champions also welcomed infielder Kody Clemens, son of former All-Star pitcher Roger Clemens.

In the operation, the Tigers added Nick Maton, outfielder Matt Vierling and catcher and first baseman Donny Sands.

The Phillies also signed star shortstop Trea Turner to an 11-year, $300 million contract.

Soto left a record in Tigres 2-11 in 64 games. He completed 30 of 35 save opportunities and finished fifth among the AL save leaders.

In the 60.1 innings he worked, Soto allowed 22 runs and struck out 60 batters. He posted a 3.28 ERA.

The team hasn’t specified whether Soto’s job will be to close out games, having recently agreed to a one-year deal with veteran reliever Craig Kimbrel.

The Phillies relief team will now have a trio of Latino pitchers completed by another Dominican, Seranthony Domínguez, and Venezuelan José Alvarado.
