Government rules out increase in public transport fare: "There are no changes in this regard, the fare is still frozen"

Despite the existence of a proposal from the Panel of Experts that advises the ministry to implement an increase of $40, the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications Juan Carlos Muñoz confirmed that the Government rules out carrying out an increase in the public transport fare in the short term.

Minister Muñoz told the press that, for now, “there are no changes in this regard, the rate is still frozen,” along with clarifying that the Panel of Experts “has the role and has done so before requesting rate increases.”

But, “as a Government we decided to keep the rate frozen, until there is a further announcement,” said the Secretary of State, slipping – without a specific date – that the situation could change in the future.

“Eventually it has to be thawed, when that happens we will announce it well in advance and it will be gradual,” he added.

The head of Transport stressed that this increase “will never be of the magnitude of 100 pesos as it has appeared in the press” and that it will be announced “when we have a clear and timely decision.”
