As of next Monday, January 9, traveling by plane will be much more expensive, since the Ministry of Security made official the increase in the security rate, which will impact the final price of the airfare.
The measure establishes that the rate will be charged to passengers who make both national and international trips. Said tax will be added to the value of the airfare. However, the measure will apply to the tickets that are purchased from January 9.
That is to say, that the airfare that were previously purchased, the new rate will not be applied to them; however, this will be included for both private and commercial aircraft travel.
The measure was published this Friday through the Official Gazette, there it is established that: “the aviation security fee must be paid by passengers boarding international, regional and/or domestic flightsfrom airports or aerodromes belonging to the National Airport System, on board a commercial or non-commercial aircraft, whether on a regular, non-scheduled or private flight.
It also establishes: “the entry into force of the resolution will be 3 days after its publication in the Official Gazette”, that is, next Monday. It also details: “it will be applicable to tickets issued after it.”
The aviation security fee is intended to finance the service provided by the Airport Security Police (PSA) at the airports and aerodromes that make up the National Airport System.
Said tax was promoted by the deputy for the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Paula Penacca, and included in the 2023 Budget. In this way, The new rate is added to others such as security, the use of the airport and, in the case of international tickets, the migration rate, among others.
How much will each passenger pay?
The fee will be charged to each passenger in the tickets, according to the flight category. For domestic flights, the value to be paid will be: $260 and, for regional and international flights, US$1.40; that is, approximately $250.
Children under 3 years of age will be exempt from the measure, in the case of domestic flights, and children under 2 years of age, for international flights or regional flights. Also, diplomats and passengers in transit.
