COVID-19: Mexico links five days with more than 40,000 infections

The estimated active cases, those considered the engine of the pandemic, are 296,042. These correspond to people with symptoms in the last two weeks and with the ability to spread.

The death toll rose to 305,762, after adding another 522 deaths this Saturday.

This Friday, Mexico celebrated 23 months since the first case of COVID-19 was detected in its territory.

Currently, the country is going through its fourth wave of infections, mainly driven by the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Although this variant causes less serious illness than others, federal and local authorities urge to maintain contagion prevention measures and that those who are not vaccinated go for the corresponding doses.
