The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) submitted a note to the Bolivian State Chancellery in relation to a request for precautionary measures for the situation of the governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho.

The IACHR asks the Bolivian State -to send within 10 days of receiving the letter- present its Observations regarding the request for precautionary measuresinformation on Camacho’s current detention conditions, information on his health situation and the medical care you would be receiving; information “about the circumstances and execution of the arrest of Mr. Luis Fernando Camacho, including information on the authority that made the arrest; the authority that issued the arrest warrantthe grounds for the arrest and a summary of the summonses and previous appearances of said person in the framework of this process.”

In the same way, it requests information about the place or places to which Camacho was transferred after his arrest; on the measures adopted to “guarantee the access of Mr. Camacho and his technical defense to dependencies of the justice system for the filing of appeals and presentation of actions constitutional provisions regarding his detention and the circumstances in which he would be found.”

The request for precautionary measures, to which the IACHR refers, was presented by Parliamentarians of Creemos and in it it was indicated about Camacho that: “he is deprived of his freedom. Likewise, it was alleged that he was unaware of his situation during the first hours of his detention and allegations of violence during it, as well as palleged torture or cruel treatment and lack of medical care”, indicates the document signed by Jorge Meza, deputy executive secretary of that international organization.

It is a scandal not only national, but also international. the way in which the Government has proceeded and, in addition, the irregular way going over all the guarantees and the IACHR is advancing, although very slowly,” said Senator Centa Rek, one of the promoters of this precautionary measure, who expressed his distrust of the Government, because he believes that his answers will not correspond to the truth.

“Here there are flagrant violations of human rights, an attack on life and there is an irruption of all guarantees of the entire institutional establishment of an entire country and they are here to take precautions and to pronounce themselves in this regard,” he added.

For her part, Deputy María René Álvarez indicated that they will follow up on this request from the IACHR.

“We need the IACHR to grant these precautionary measures. It is very necessary, it is vital, before the systematic abuse that we are suffering each one of the Bolivians in our country, helpless before the total arbitrariness in the institutions that they should teach and, of course, in the face of the flagrant violation of human rights that constantly occurs in the department,” he said.
