Government hopes that face-to-face classes will be authorized in Guayaquil as shows are allowed

The State portfolio called for the Guayaquil Mayor’s Office to put face-to-face education above other non-essential activities.

On the afternoon of this January 29, 2022, through a statement, the Ministry of Education made a call to the Mayor of Guayaquil to “put first the classroom education above other non-essential activities, giving it the priority that this fundamental human right deserves.

This call comes after a judge from the Juvenile Offenders Judicial Unit, in Guayaquil, deny the request of precautionary measuress that that state portfolio presented against the closure of schools imposed by the mayor of that city, Cynthia Viteri.

The Ministry questions that Viteri assures that he was right with that judicial pronouncement. And he points out that in the ruling the judge did not rule on the legality or not of the actions carried out by the Mayor of Guayaquilbut says that «it is not going to pronounce on the merits of the matter».

In the legal part, the Government has to wait for the result of the protection action requested on the same issue and whose hearing is scheduled for Thursday, February 3, 2022.

Finally, the Ministry stated that in the same way as the Mayor of Guayaquil has given permission to public events mass (including sports), should also support the return to voluntary face-to-face classes and with biosecurity measures.

“In view of the fact that on January 26 the Mayor of Guayaquil has publicly recognized that, in accordance with what was stated by the National COE and in particular by the Health Table on the health situation, the indicators of cases and infections by COVID-19 are clearly improving, this as part of his justification for the elimination of the “ban on public events mass events (including sports)» face-to-face in the city, we hope that in the same way the return to voluntary face-to-face classes and with biosecurity measures”, concludes the official statement.
