MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban boxer Yordenis Ugás, world super welterweight champion for the World Boxing Association, expressed his solidarity with the political prisoner José Daniel Ferrer, whom he considered “the bravest man in Cuba.”
Through the social network Facebook Ugás denounced that the leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) remains in “filthy prisons of that tyranny.”
“They cannot break him, they can only imprison him and deprive him of his freedom. History will be there to do justice. It is a pride to be a Santiago native like you”, said the boxer.
In his publication, he also recalled having met the opponent’s brother more than ten years ago, “a brave Cuban also from the group of 75 who was sentenced to 28 years in prison.”
“A family of brave Cubans and courageous people from Santiago, that this dictatorship has never been able to break,” concludes the publication by Ugás, one of the athletes who, from exile, continues to denounce the island’s regime.
last october, after attending a demonstration on 8th Street in Miami, Yordenis Ugás pointed out that the Cuban people have in their hands to free themselves from the Castro regime that has ruled the country for more than 60 years. Just as he called on Cubans in exile “to leave apathy and selfishness and have more empathy with the situation in Cuba.”
José Daniel Ferrer, confined in the Mar Verde prison, Santiago de Cuba, has been deprived of liberty since July 11, 2021 (11J). That day the activist and one of his sons were arrested when they tried to join the anti-government demonstrations that took place in their province during that historic day.
