Status of foreigners in Panama will not be questioned during the XII Population and VIII Housing

Regardless of the immigration status or condition of foreigners in the country, the Comptroller General of the Republic, Gerardo Solís, has guaranteed on several occasions that the information collected by the enumerators is confidential, and that it is only required for statistical purposes for its own benefit.

Fearing irregular foreigners, Solis highlighted that Law No. 10, which creates the INEC, guarantees that this information provided in the census is confidential, since all people have the responsibility to provide the information requested and at the same time are protected under the statistical secrecy established by the legal provisions of the entity.

“One of the questions that foreigners ask about censuses is whether they are going to ask about their immigration status,” said the director of the National Institute of Statistics and Census of the Comptroller General of the Republic (INEC), Samuel Moreno, stressing that the enumerators will not ask about their immigration status.

Moreno’s statements were made during a press conference in which the President of the Association of Residents and Naturalized (ARENA) also participated, Rafael Rodríguez, who urged foreigners living in the country to open the door to the census takers and provide statistical data to be able to count the number of foreigners in the country.

The XII Population and VIII Housing Censuses will be carried out from this Sunday, January 8 to March 4, nationwide for 56 days.
