More than one million 500 thousand vaccines against influenza have been applied in Panama

A total of 1,508,408 doses of the influenza vaccine were applied nationwide through the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI) of the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

According to the report, until January 3, 2023, a total of 1,149,513 doses of Minsa health were placed; while from the Social Security Fund 358,895.

The Metropolitan Region maintains the highest number in the application of doses with a total of 372,834 followed by the province of Chiriquí with 178,383.

Panama Oeste ranks third with a total of 120,624, the Ngäbe-Buglé region 119,284; Coclé has applied 113,248; while Veraguas 106,757; the San Miguelito region 93,156; Colon 83,566; Bocas del Toro 78,272; East Panama Region 53,724; North Panama 53,233; Herrera 52,971; Los Santos 36,127; Darien 25,306 and Guna Yala with 20,923.

Health authorities remind that the influenza vaccine causes antibodies to develop in the body approximately two weeks after vaccination, these serve to provide protection against infections from circulating influenza viruses.

The Minsa calls for maintaining self-care measures to avoid the disease and it is recommended to get vaccinated every year against influenza.
