Prices of goods in dollars increased 27% in 2022, according to Cedice calculations

In the 30 days of December, prices in the cities of Caracas, Valencia and Maracaibo had an increase of 55.29% in bolivars, while in dollars the increase was 8.30%, according to the latest report presented by Cedice. Liberty


The Cedice basket expressed in dollars reached an average value of 507.88 dollars in 2022, in the three cities of the country where the measurement is carried out: Caracas (capital of the country), Maracaibo (Zulia state) and Valencia (Carabobo state). According to the report, prices expressed in dollars had an increase of 27.01% in the year, driven mainly by the Food category with a variation of 33.85% and by the Restaurant category with an increase of 46.12%.

The calculations show that in Caracas the average prices in foreign currency were $570.30 per month, in Maracaibo for $510.39 and in Valencia for $442.93.

The Cedice basket Measured in bolivars and dollars, it is made up of 61 goods and services required by a family of three people and is made up of six items: Food, Restaurants, Services, Recreation and Leisure, Perfumery and Personal Care, and Transportation.

The acceleration of prices is evidenced by the fact that in 15 days, between December 15 and 30, 2022, prices had an increase of 23.62% in national currency, while they showed an increase of 3.49% in Dollars.

But in the 30 days, between December 1 and 30, 2022, prices had an increase of 55.29% in national currency, while they presented an increase of 8.30% in dollars.

The Cedice basket reached an average of 7,734.95 bolivars per month in the three cities. That is, in Caracas an amount of Bs 8,685.73, in Maracaibo Bs 7,773.29 and in Valencia Bs 6,745.83.

In the second half of December, prices increased 23.62% on average (Caracas 18.33%, Maracaibo 37.89% and Valencia 16.42%). Food showed the greatest increase with 34.12%.

While in the last 30 days of 2022 prices increased 55.29% (Caracas 53.09%, Maracaibo 69.64% and Valencia 43.93%). Both Food and Perfumery and Personal Care showed the greatest increase with 65.41%.

“In year-on-year terms, prices in bolivars increased 310.33%, that is, prices have multiplied 4.1 times in one year, mainly driven by the Food item with an inter-annual variation of 332.43% and by the Restaurants with an annual increase of 372.07%”, highlighted the Cedice Libertad report.

On December 30, the average consumption of 61 goods and services by a family made up of three people in the cities of Caracas, Valencia and Maracaibo, reached an average value of Bs 7,734.95; which represents an increase of 23.62% in this second half of the month. This level of consumption requires 44 integral salaries of 175 bolivarsthat is, a little less than a full salary and a half per day.
