Agustín Maddocks: “The great challenge that hotels have is to recover rates”

The first days of January raised hotel occupancy to 45% in the city of Montevideo. Although pre-pandemic levels are far from being reached, this data is good news for one of the sectors hardest hit by the pandemic, which is looking to pick itself up. In this framework, the general manager of the Hilton hotels in Uruguay and general secretary of the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of Uruguay (AHRU), Agustín Maddocks, recognizes the joint work between the public and private sectors and hopes that some measures, such as zero-rate VAT, and that others be extended, such as partial unemployment insurance.
