The Popular Renewal congressmen Gladys Echaíz and Jorge Montoya rejected the early elections by 2024. The parliamentarians —in statements for La República— agreed that there are no arguments for a new electoral process despite the fact that leaders of social organizations from seven regions agreed to resume the protests this wednesday january 4.
Jorge Montoya stated that he “maintains his position” to rule out the proposal to advance the elections, considering that only “there is pressure from the street.” He also indicated that the Government of Dina Boluarte He must finish his presidential term.
“I do not agree with the early elections. I have said it countless times, long before the vote was taken and I stand by my position. There is no argument to advance the elections, there is only pressure from the street and fear of those who have to vote to say what they really think (…) The management must continue until the end of the period, follow the rules of the Constitution, “he said the spokesman for Popular Renewal.
For her part, Congresswoman Gladys Echaíz argued that the Constitution has a structure and an order that must be defended, since she considers that “a new political system should not be imposed by a group of people.”
“In the same sense, democracy must be defended and the Constitution has a structure and an order that must be defended. Not because a group of people who want to alter the order to impose a new political system, we have to weakly accept and submit to”, the legislator stated.
