The Government of Cuba today prioritizes popular participation as a way to promote the nation’s programs aimed at raising the quality of life of its inhabitants.
That was one of the main ideas of the recently concluded government visit to the western province of Pinar del Río, together with the need to work from science and innovation as strategies adjusted to the realities of the places.
Díaz-Canel and other high-ranking officials in the country have insisted on the need to deploy a style of work in all government instances characterized by “going down” to the grassroots and knowing first-hand the aspirations of the population and seeking solutions to problems. .
In recent days, the president also toured communities in the provinces of Sancti Spíritus, Villa Clara and Cienfuegos, in which the dialogue with its inhabitants was based on the invitation to make them rulers and participants in the processes of social transformation.
When recently visiting the Ceballos Popular Council, in Ciego de Ávila, Díaz-Canel urged residents to contribute their criteria in order to guarantee the quality and sustainability of the tasks carried out in their places of residence.
“There is a lot of talent in our town, that is why people must give their opinion, participate, mobilize. We can do many things that do not need so many resources. That emancipates, exalts and raises the quality of life”, he pointed out.
In the president’s opinion, citizen wisdom is the best method for designing and managing local development programs.
Even the Minister of Finance and Prices of Cuba, Meisi Bolaños, highlighted this week the need to exercise greater popular participation in the management and control of budgets in the municipalities, and in the destinations of monetary resources.
In this sense, he explained that the country is studying the possibility that companies whose labor force and natural resources are in the community, cease to be of national subordination and become municipal units, whose contributions would be used for local development.
