SANTO DOMINGO.- Three people died and 31 were affected by traffic accidents, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported today in the first bulletin of the second phase of the Christmas operation “Awareness for Life 2022-2023.
Of the deaths, two were registered inside the security device and the other outside it, involving 1 light vehicle and 2 motorcycles.
A total of 24 traffic accidents were reported, of which 21 involved motorcycles and three light vehicles.
Some 22 people intoxicated by alcohol have been treated, of which one turned out to be a minor. 8 people have also been treated for food poisoning.
The provinces with the most reported cases are the National District, Puerto Plata, Montecristi and Monseñor Nouel.
The COE also reported some 1,380 road assistance and 329 medical assistance.
The second phase of the operation began yesterday and ends on January 1 at 6:00 p.m., the COE, together with the institutions that make it up, will establish a road safety and prevention device in sections of the main roads and highways of the national territory to prevent traffic accidents, alcohol poisoning and food poisoning.
For this, 44,321 people have been deployed, who represent the institutions that are part of the entity.
It is recalled that the first phase of the operation, which took place between December 23 and 26, left a balance of 18 deaths in 102 traffic accidents, while 368 people were intoxicated by alcohol, 18 of them minors, and 101 people were treated for food poisoning.
