The tragedy in Saipina caused mourning in 11 families, the number of deaths after a bus ran aground. However, there are those who were miraculously saved and witnessed that the bus driver was driving at high speeds for more than two hours before the accident.
Lucy Sánchez Delgadillo, one of the passengers, told the cameras of Tele T Canal 35 the moments of terror that he experienced when he felt that the bus had fallen off the cliff. He said he saw passengers fly out of their seats and everyone was screaming for help.
The bus got stuck before reaching Saipina.
She was traveling with her sister, and the first thing she managed was to look for her, finding her alive, although both with some injuries. “I was going back to Saipina to spend New Years, but I already felt that, in the Mairana and Mataral area, the bus was going at great speed, and when we were about to reach Saipina the accident happened, people were screaming, flying through the air and falling to the ground with force. I felt the blow, the seat crushed my foot, I was trying to get it out to try to find my sister. Thank God we are fine, she with a fracture and I with blows to the foot,” said the young woman.

Unfortunately, Jaime López, the bus driver for the Trans Saipina company, with license plate 2853 NBN, also died along with 10 other passengers between the ages of five and 50.
The Director of the Transit Operations Body, Colonel Roberto Pórcel, indicated that presumably speeding was the trigger and cause of the tragedy that today leaves 11 dead.
“Four kilometers before reaching the toll booth, in a curve is where the driver loses control and Probably due to speeding it gets stuck,” said the police chief.
He explained that, of the 11 deceased, five are minors, In addition, there are other seriously injured who were transferred to different medical centers, both in nearby towns and to clinics in the capital of Santa Cruz.

For her part, the director of the Saipina hospital, Yaneth Veizaga, indicated that at 3:30 this Friday both the injured and the deceased began to arrive, reaching 28 people with bruises, fractures, and other injuries, in addition to received 11 deceased.
“We tried to contact support from the ambulances of the municipalities and surrounding towns to evacuate critically ill patients, the others are being treated at this hospital,” he said.
The Police assured that they seek to verify all the information so that the transport company activates its insurance and takes responsibility for all affected passengers.
