The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, today led the opening of an exhibition by the visual artist Ernesto Rancaño, with the image of the National Hero, José Martí, as the protagonist on the 169th anniversary of his birth.
At the Palace of the Revolution, the events director of the Ministry of Culture, Lis Cuesta, gave the opening remarks and paid tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and to the heroine Celia Sánchez, “for turning this space into a place for culture.”
The exhibition, entitled Under Dador, which is part of the 14th Havana Biennial, integrates works inspired by Martí by the painter Rancaño, whose visuals adorn the rooms of the Palace of the Revolution together with two sculptures by the artist Eugenio Rodríguez, a drawing by Alexis Kcho Machado and the stained glass window El sol de América, by Mario Gallardo.
Under Dador, the event was presided over by the country’s Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman and the member of the secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and head of its Ideological Department, Rogelio Polanco, while prominent intellectuals from the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba and members of the Office of the Martí Program.
