The Decentralized Administrative Body for Prevention and Social Rehabilitation imposed since last December Red light
to contain and eradicate the cases of covid-19 that have occurred within the Federal Center for Social Readaptation (Cefereso) number 1, Altiplano, and that so far affects 23 inmates.
The penitentiary center based in the municipality of Almoloya de Juárez, state of Mexico, has implemented provisional measures that will last until the epidemiological risk decreases
according to the protocol that was implemented to prevent contagion in the detention centers operated by the federal government, federal officials said.
Sources consulted reported that the authorities maintain the protocol of Specific traffic lights for penitentiary centers, considering the traffic lights for each corresponding entity, but also taking into account the situation of epidemiological risk within each center
, which implies –according to each color– specific measures to restrict mobility and physical contact between the prison population and between them and staff and visitors.
According to authorities interviewed, the measures have been made known to the inmates, their families and lawyers, and They have allowed in all cases to successfully contain and eradicate covid outbreaks in various ceferes of the Republic, thereby guaranteeing the health of people deprived of their liberty.

In this context, in the specific case of Cefereso number 1, since December it has been at a red light, due to the presence of positive cases of covid-19; “Currently there are 23 positive detainees, who have been placed under guard and are checked twice a day by the center’s medical staff.
Fortunately, in none of these cases have serious symptoms or that require hospital treatment.
The measures imposed that restrict mobility and physical contact they have not prevented the prison population from exercising the right to defense or to have contact with their families

So that inmates do not lose contact with their relatives, a a televisit system
through which people deprived of their liberty, privately, make video calls with members of their families.
In the case of the lawyers – more than 390 visits have been recorded so far this month – they have had contact with their clients in the locutory area, to minimize any possibility of contagion.
