Commission of Deputies approved the project, it will be voted on in 2023
The Chamber of Deputies approved this Wednesday in commission the project of Co-responsibility in Parenting, according to what the legislator of the National Party Rodrigo Goñi published on his Twitter account.
Goñi celebrated that this has happened: “A great step to solve a problem that causes unjustified and unfair suffering to both children and families,” the deputy added in his post.
Now the text will be voted on in the first sessions of the lower house in 2023, in accordance with the provisions of the parliamentary agenda.
Broad Front decided not to accompany
In yesterday’s Wednesday session, the deputies of the Broad Front decided not to support the initiative, because they understand that there is already a legislature in force to address this problem and because it does not “watch over the best interest of children,” according to what the coordinator of the opposition bench, Mariano Tucci.
The senators had already given the go-ahead to the text in August, so the last step for it to become law will be the vote in the lower house.
The document proposes the “fair distribution of rights and duties inherent to parental authority” and points out that both parents have common rights and obligations regarding the upbringing and development of children and adolescents.
Abdala: ¨gives clear and evident guarantees¨
The president of the Institute for Children and Adolescents of Uruguay (INAU), Pablo Abdala, was one of those who was in favor of the project. “Give clear and evident guarantees. It establishes that the shared tendency can be decreed as long as family conditions enable that to happen”, considered the hierarch last July.
