Homes raided, cash and firearms located as part of second phase of ‘Operation Fisher’

From the early hours of this Wednesday, the Public Ministry developed a second phase of the “Fisher” operation in which a residence located in Hato Pintado was raided.

In addition to this diligence, in the sector of La Cresta, province of Colón, the Drug Prosecutor’s Office located cash, while in Condado del Rey firearms and ammunition were seized.

So far, the prosecution reported that these raids have been carried out at different points in the provinces of Panama and Colón, apprehending 13 people.

The apprehended persons will be brought before a judge of guarantees for crimes of money laundering.

This diligence is in charge of the officials of the First Drug Prosecutor’s Office together with agents of the National Police.

According to the first reports, this raid was carried out with the aim of locating “indications” of the criminal network dedicated to drug trafficking, which was dismantled last December in the first phase of “Fisher”.

On December 9, 2020, the guarantee judge Teodolinda Cardoze ordered the preventive detention of 51 of the 56 accused of crimes of illicit association and money laundering.

The group of 56 people is accused of being part of a criminal organization linked to the Clan del Golfo, whose base is in Colombia.

One of the defendants, Xavier Bartuano, accepted a sentence agreement of 68 months in prison for the crime of illicit association.

Prosecutor Joseph Díaz assured that the aforementioned criminal organization was responsible for most of the drugs that reach the Panamanian coast.
