New Covid-19 outbreak hits La Sagrada Familia nursing home in Oruro

The director of the Departmental Health Service (Headquarters) of Oruro, Juan Carlos Challapa, reported that between January 24 and 26 suspicious cases were tested inside the La Sagrada Familia Nursing Home, of which two administrative workers and four elderly people tested positive for Covid-19.

Two of the elderly have short-term health insurance, of them, one was referred to the covid area of the National Health Fund (CNS)where they can monitor your health status and provide specialized care.

The authority indicated that it was requested that the four elderly be transferred to the Oruro Epidemiological and Sanitary Intelligence Center (Cieso), where they would receive timely care, in addition to 24-hour monitoring, but the administrative area of the asylum opposed the request.

“We have recommended and made it possible for the other three positive cases that remained in the asylum to be adequately assisted in a corresponding place to receive medical attention in isolation,” Challapa mentioned.

In addition, he announced that the director of the San Juan de Dios General Hospital, Israel Ramírez, was asked that the hospital’s geriatrician be able to assist all the elderly in the home.

“Between Wednesday and Thursday we have tested 35 elderly people of which we are awaiting the results to verify the exact number of positive cases that exist within the home, “he added.

To lower the viral load of covid-19, on the spot, Headquarters proceeded with the fumigation of all the rooms of the asylum. He also indicated that continuous tests will be carried out to verify if there are more infected adults.

“Let us remember that massive testing is considered justified in this type of vulnerable population, the average number of patients in these circumstances recurs epidemiologically,” he argued.
