The First Drug Prosecutor’s Office reported that on Thursday night the arrest of the 14 people captured in phase 2 of the “Fisher” operation, carried out on January 26 in different parts of the country, was legalized.
On Wednesday, the authorities carried out 18 raids and arrested 14 linked, including 4 officials. The operation was carried out in Colón, central Panama, East Panama and West Panama.
According to the prosecution, those arrested are allegedly linked to the Clan del Golfo, a criminal network dedicated to drug trafficking.
For this Friday, it is expected that the hearing will resume in which the prosecution will ask the judge to file charges.
On December 9, 2020, the guarantee judge Teodolinda Cardoze ordered the preventive detention of 51 of the 56 accused of crimes of illicit association and money laundering.
On that occasion, it was reported that nine officials were apprehended in the operation, of which five were linked to the security forces.
The group of 56 people is accused of being part of a criminal organization linked to the Clan del Golfo, whose base is in Colombia.
