The President of the Board of Directors of the National Commission for the Defense of Competition (ProCompetition), Maria Elena Vasquez Taverashighlighted the investment climate that exists in the Dominican Republic, due to the strengthening of the legal securitywhich facilitates free market competition.
Through a press release, Vásquez Taveras pointed out that another element to take into consideration in the Dominican case is the growing connection with the world due to the tourism boom.
By participating in the IV Regional Work Table of “Competition/Aviation Authorities”held in this Central American country from Thursday to Friday, together with the Minister of ProCompetitionGianna Franjul, as well as Jazmín Fabré, from the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), representing the Dominican Republic, Elena Vásquez highlighted the importance of this activity for the country.
For two days, representatives of Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Dominican Republic and Guatemalaas a guest country, analyzed the topics scheduled in the context of the Central American Network of National Authorities responsible for the issue of Competition (Recac), a project of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
According to the executive summary of the project, the analysis of the passenger air transport sector is of interest to Recat, due to the characteristics of the sector (strict regulations, limited competition, type of operations) that limit the free operation of airlines in the air spaces.
He highlighted that the regulations of the airline industry mainly affect the entry of new airlines on the routes, weakening the disciplined role of this element in the performance of the markets.
In the context of the meeting, on Thursday 27, the Republic of El Salvador held the pro tempore (temporary) presidency of the Recac-PPT.
