The hotels of the northern beaches they expect the occupation this summer to fluctuate in a range of 60% to 70%, an expectation that was between 70% and 80%, but which fell after the demonstrations. This was reported to Peru21 by the president of the Tumbes Regional Chamber of Tourism, Carlos Viñas del Vivero.
The lower occupation would be explained by foreign reservations cancelled. “They are tourists from southern Ecuador (Guayaquil, Cuenca, Loja, Machala and Santa Rosa), where Ecuadorians traditionally visit us on long holidays. Canceled reservations fluctuate in 40% of this important market”, said Viñas. However, he clarified that for New Year they project an occupancy of 70% to 80%.
Interregional flights
This week, several tourist unions will meet with the authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) and among the requests of the northern representatives will be interregional flights as part of initiatives that add to their reactivation.
The flights from Cajamarca and Tarapoto to Tumbes and Piura are the most interesting in both coastal regions, Viñas told this outlet.
“Many people from the jungle want to enjoy the beach, but paying a ticket to Lima and then to Tumbes is an abuse. Plus the return, they are paying two more tickets, ”she remarked.
