Within the framework of an investigation for asset laundering, the North Central Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office formalized the stockbroker LarrainVial, represented by its general manager Andrés Trivelli; and the brokerage’s compliance officer, Francisco Skinner, was charged with money laundering.

The plaintiff in this case is the Sierra Bella Medical and Maternity Society, who in 2013 acquired a series of properties from the Evangelical Union Corporation, at a price of 118,000 UF, that is, 4,130 million current pesos, which would be paid in several parts, the last being in 2018. To pay the balance, the company issued a voucher for 1,710 million pesos.
According to the complainant, later his own lawyer Isaías Gómez, together with José Miguel Patuelli, put together a plan to keep the voucher. Once in their possession, they contacted LarrainVial, with the aim of opening an account with said company.
One of the complainants, Carlos Gajardo, indicated that “a medical society was defrauded by its own lawyer, who managed to appropriate a voucher of more than 1,700 million pesos.”
“Subsequently, in order to collect that vale vista, he carried out concealment maneuvers, for which he relied on the inexcusable negligence of LarrainVial, who did not comply with his own protocol in the entire operation that was carried out,” he adds.
LarrainVial’s defense indicated that “here there is no responsibility on the part of LarrainVial or its executives in these events. This is a case that Sierra Bella has cleverly built, and in it there are people other than LarrainVial who have confessed to having committed crimes and of having appropriated funds from Sierra Bella.”
“The persecution that LarrainVial is being subjected to is merely instrumental and its purpose is to obtain financial compensation that is unfair, as we are going to demonstrate,” he added.
