MADRID, Spain.- Former Cuban pitcher Carlos Yanes, who holds the record for the most National Baseball Series played, left Cuba for Nicaragua.
The news was released this Monday by photojournalist Yuniet Ávila, who specified through Facebook that Yanes, 56 years old and a native of the Isla de la Juventud, “left the country two weeks ago via Nicaragua with his wife.”
The information was confirmed by the independent media Cuban ballwho contacted players close to the former player.
Yanes was the first pitcher for the Piratas de La Isla for 28 seasons. With 235 victories, he is the pitcher with the second most games won in the history of the National Series, only surpassed by Pedro Luis Lazo from Pinar del Río. He is also the second most games pitched pitcher.
Last year Carlos Yanes, in an interview with Play Off Magazine, he had expressed his disappointment with the Cuban authorities after his retirement.
“I can say that no attention is paid to me and one gets annoyed with that. (…) It’s as if when you retire they forget everything you did. I think that the experience that one accumulates should be collected, there has to be someone dedicated to that because it is not just a diplomat, there are thousands of situations that one lives through the years and needs a hand. Here there are many athletes, not only in baseball, abandoned. Maybe, one day, they call you for a meeting or an act, but that can’t be all, ”he explained.
