The National Emergency Office (Onemi), according to the information provided by the Chilean Meteorological Directorate (DMC), foresees probable electrical storms in the mountain range of the Metropolitan Region (RM).
The climatic phenomenon would be witnessed on the night of this Monday, December 26 and could be accompanied by light rainfall.
In consideration of this background, the Onemi Metropolitan Regional Directorate declared a Preventive Early Warning for the communes of Colina, Vitacura, Las Condes, La Reina, Lo Barnechea, Peñalolén, La Florida, Puente Alto, San José De Maipo and Pirque due to electrical storms. , effective as of today and “until conditions so warrant.”
“The declaration of said alert, is constituted as a state of reinforcement of vigilance, through the precise and rigorous monitoring of risk conditions and the respective vulnerabilities associated with the threat, coordinating and activating the National System of Prevention and Response to Disasters in order to act promptly in case of emergency situations,” said Onemi.
The state office recommends that the population stay in a safe place and avoid going out, unless absolutely necessary; avoid proximity to machinery, fences or metal bars, wire fences and electrical and/or telephone lines; and not use radio equipment, GPS devices, landlines or mobile phones during the storm.
