The company in charge of waste in Quito will have 15 days to present a new action plan. Within 72 hours you should remedy the affected areas.
The Ministry of the Environment reported on the fine notification to the Metropolitan Company for Comprehensive Solid Waste Management (Emgirs-EP), entity in charge of the final disposal of the garbage that is produced in Quito and who handles the El Inga landfill.
The State portfolio declared her responsible for environmental infringement, precisely in relation to the handling of the filling and sanctioned her with a $127,500 fine.

The Ministry of the Environment carried out inspections in August and December 2021. The reports conclude that “findings and non-compliance with action plans, environmental management plans and environmental license are verified.”
“It has been shown that its treatment plants (of the filling) do not work properly, because in several inspections in different periods of time, said plants were paralyzed”, says the document.

The Ministry of the Environment established a period of no more than 15 days, so that Emgirs present a new Emergency Action Plan, exclusively for the leachate treatment (liquids produced by the decomposition of waste) in the landfill.
It was also requested to Emgirs obtaining the Hazardous Waste Generator Registry, since the one pending in the Single Environmental Information System would not meet the requirement and it was provided that in the El Inga landfill “Start immediately remediation plan in affected areas, within a period not exceeding 72 hours from the notification of this resolution.
