Havana population warned about artillery detonations

OnCubaNews

The Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba (FAR) warned the population of Havana that on Monday night they will hear artillery detonations fired from the San Carlos de La Cabaña Fortress.

The discharges are part of the rehearsal of a traditional military ceremony that takes place on the night of December 31. According to a statement collected by the Cuban News Agency (ACN), the Minfar warned that said military ceremony is celebrated at 12 at night of that day.

The 21 salutes will be fired in salute to the 64th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution.

The note warns that for the participation of the population in the ceremony on December 31, the Fortress will open its doors from 11:30 p.m.

The Fortress of San Carlos de La Cabaña is one of the jewels of Spanish military architecture in America. Its construction was entrusted by King Carlos III to the engineer Silvestre Abarca and was carried out between 1763 and 1774.

Located in the eastern part of Havana, at the entrance to the bay, it has an area of more than 10 hectares and 700 meters of walls and inside it has buildings, fortifications, moats and roads.

It is currently part of the Morro Cabaña Military Historical Park –next to the nearby Morro Castle– and houses museums and cultural events.
