Approve financial aid for 344 natives of Castilla y León living in Cuba

The Board of Castile and Leon (Spain), approved aid economic benefits for 344 citizens of this Community or their descendants residing in Cuba, according to an official statement issued this Monday. These are aimed at people in “situation of special need”.

According to the breakdown, the measure favors 119 people living in municipalities in the province of León; 111 in Zamora; 33 in Burgos; 32 in Salamanca; 16 in Valladolid; 13 in Palencia; eight in Avila; seven in Soria; and five in Segovia.

The program has a joint budget of 120,000 euros. The Minister of the Presidency, Jesús Julio Carnero, has explained through a statement cited by efe that “this regional Plan has as one of its strategic objectives to seek to cover the basic needs of the Castilians and Leonese”.

According to data from the National Institute of Statistics, as of January 1, 2022, 183,676 Castilians and Leonese registered in the PERE resided abroad in one of the municipalities of the Community of Castilla y León; of them 114,556 in America, and 9,712 in Cuba.

The requirements that applicants must meet to access these aids are to have Spanish nationality and to be residing abroad in one of the countries for which the Spanish State Administration established the calculation basis for benefits due to need during the year 2021.

In addition, being over eighteen years of age, being registered as a resident in the consular registration register for at least one year, taking into account the time of submission of the aid application, and having established a municipality in Castilla y León as a municipality. of registration in Spain and that this is recorded in the Register of Spaniards Resident Abroad (PERE).

To be a beneficiary, it is necessary to lack economic means and patrimonial assets in the family unit that allow the minimum level of subsistence in relation to the reference index established in the call, as well as not having the applicant or any member of the family unit, in the at the time of submitting the application or during the financial year 2021, patrimonial assets with a value higher than the reference index in annual computation of the country of residence for the year 2021, excluding the habitual residence of the family unit.

In addition to the previous individual aid, the Ministry has given the green light to another aid of 15,000 euros in favor of the Association of Castilian and Leonese Societies in Cuba.

The purpose of this fund is to finance the expenses derived from the acquisition and distribution of food and other basic necessities, as well as inputs for protection and hygiene, which make it possible to alleviate the situation of special need and lack of resources of the Castilian and Leonese residents. in Cuba derived from the degradation of socio-economic and sanitary conditions caused by the COVID-19 crisis.
