CDMX, Mexico- The Provincial Health Directorate (DPS) in Santiago de Cuba announced that they are investigating a case of alleged trafficking in human organs at the Ambrosio Grillo Portuondo Clinical Surgical Hospital, located in the town of El Cobre, in Santiago de Cuba. .
A note published on the Facebook profile of the provincial institution acknowledges that there are two workers from the same detained since last December 9 for an alleged criminal act. They had two hearts in their possession and it is being investigated whether they are of human origin.
The workers work as eviscerators and occupational therapists, according to the official statement.
DPS responded to a Twitter post by user Yannis Estrada alleging that an employee of the hospital you would be removing organs and body fat from deceased patients to grind them up and sell them as food.
The case is “in the investigative process by the bodies of the National Revolutionary Police and a sector commission for clarification,” according to the entity.
Yannis Estrada, a political activist who spread the case, provided more information about the fact that he announced on Friday, December 23.
According to Estrada’s sources, the person who allegedly committed these crimes would be named Roberto Guzmán, and he worked at the hospital as an assistant to the pathologist.
The activist adds that the residents of the area associated the fact with the sale of a mincemeat of dubious quality in the area. Although it is thought the amount required for this would be greater than what they can subtract. Hence, another of the hypotheses is that perhaps the organs were used for religious rituals.
