Betsy Remedios, the Cuban soprano who shone on Got Talent Spain

MIAMI, United States. – The young Cuban Betsy Remedios, a native of Holguín, recently won the praise of the jury and the public in the popular Got Talent contest, on Spanish Television.

In Cuba, Remedios studied at the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) and came to play leading roles in the Rodrigo Prats lyrical theater. However, due to the serious situation on the Island, he decided to emigrate to Spain, where he arrived from Russia like many other Cubans: crossing borders.

At the time of her appearance on Got Talent, she was working at a supermarket and taking care of an elderly woman. According to her she told Cuban newspaperhe had lost his dreams of singing again.

“This opportunity is changing my life. I was on a precipice, resigned to not sing anymore. I arrived at the age of 32 and it is very difficult to start from scratch in a foreign country. I was at home and my friends got me excited. After thinking about it a lot, I applied for the auditions. The first face-to-face casting was overwhelming, we waited for more than 10 hours, there were many of us, people from all over the world,” he told the independent media.

“I was shaking all over when I debuted singing ‘Memory’ from the musical cats. The lyrics in Spanish were a version that suited me like a glove, because it was everything I was feeling and living at that moment, ”she said.

Remedios managed to leave Cuba for Russia just last August. “I arrived in Russia in August and I spent two months there looking for which path to take, what was clear to me was that I had to move forward. I went through Serbia, they robbed me, I was walking alone late at night, I was rescued by two gentlemen from Kosovo, who were sent angels, with whom I still maintain contact, ”he recalled.

After leaving Serbia, he went through Macedonia and Greece, where he had to stay in a refugee camp. “I was not going to request asylum in Greece, they constantly told us in the camp that they were going to deport us via Turkey. Time did not pass there, until on my sixth attempt I managed to leave and reach Spain, where I asked for asylum.
