Three months after the Las Londras case, in Santa Cruz, journalists from Santa Cruz held a sit-in this Friday in front of the Police Departmental Command, to protest that to date there have been no results and that the investigations are paralyzed.

“We are at this sit-in in a peaceful and orderly manner to remind the Police to comply with their constitutional mission, which are: the defense of society, maintaining public order and compliance with the laws, that has not been done. We have 5 warrants for arrests that have not been executed by the Police,” lamented the president of the Association of Journalists of Santa Cruz, Roberto Méndez, in an interview with Central Affairs.

He even mentioned that 22 citations were issued, but they have not been delivered to date.

“We are here to remind the Police, that as we said in a memorial, if they feel overwhelmed, we know that it is an armed group, that they ask for help from the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Government. We have a complaint for breach of duties, ”he said.

Percy Suárez, one of the victims, lamented that impunity proliferates despite the fact that there is evidence of the ambush and kidnapping of the victims in the hands of alleged land invaders.

“Our case does not move a page, because there is no money for photocopies, any excuse, that the police are with Covid. Police officers from all departments are mobilized to arrest a person,” Suárez said, according to ANF.

He described that, at first, the people who suffered the ambush and the kidnapping felt fear, fear, but that as the days went by the feeling turned into “frustration”, because until now the investigations have not advanced compared to other cases that They have a lot of speed.

He stated that the 28th of each month will be considered a “day of impunity” and they will remind the prosecutors and judges about this case, because there is evidence that no one will erase about the events that took place.

The Committee for Santa Cruz repudiated that 90 days after that fact there are no detainees and sanctions for the crimes. “We ask ourselves, is there a cover-up? The authorities should show that they are impartial in the administration of justice and in police action. We accompany the press workers in the sit-in demanding justice and speed in the investigations.”
