CDMX, Mexico-. This Friday the mother of the Cuban political prisoners died Maria Cristina and Angelica Garridowho remain in detention for participating in the demonstrations on July 11.
“He dies, asking for the freedom of his girls. Even her father’s meat fertilizes the humid earth and now she receives her mother’s body, ”the activist Luis Rodríguez Pérez, Angélica’s husband, wrote on Facebook.
In the 17 months that the activists have been in prison, they have lost both of their parents. In mid-August the father passed away. “The imprisonment of his only two daughters killed their parents, another thing cannot be said,” Rodríguez Pérez told cybercuba
Rodríguez, who is also an opponent, mentioned in the same post that today is the birthday of Angélica Garrido, sentenced to three years in prison.
“What a birthday, my love! On Thursday you told me ‘if I had time, if I could take care of her, caress her, treat her like a child’. I remember, that I lied to you; Well, I gave you hope. I failed. My calculations were not right. You, stay calm, my brothers and I will be the ones who blow the iron bars that they have put on your cake, “added Rodríguez Pérez.
“Since their visits were separated, the mother had to go twice a week to see her daughters, despite being in poor health. Long trips, from one province to another, going through that suffering… until recently they gave her the chance to make a joint visit to her daughters,” the activist described to Cibercuba.
Angélica and María Cristina Garrido were found guilty of the crimes of attack, public disorder and disobedience, charges for which hundreds of 9/11 protesters were also prosecuted.
The Garrido sisters are mothers of two and three children, respectively, who are now in the care of relatives. In the case of Angélica, her state of health is worrisome since the opponent suffered paralysis in half of her body as a result of a cerebrovascular accident in prison.
